The Makassar Class is the second LPD (Landing Platform Dock) purchased by The Indonesian Navy, she was preceded by the first LPD KRI Tanjung Dalpele (972) which now known as KRI Dr. Soeharso (990). Indonesian Navy Ordered 4 LPDs in total, the first two was built in Korea, the 3rd and 4th ship built in Indonesia by PT. PAL under the Transfer of Technology agreement as part of the deal.
